About Dandridge

Dandridge, the second oldest town in Tennessee, is the county seat of Jefferson County. Dandridge is situated on TN 92 and has access to I-40 which bisects the town. It is about 30 minutes east of Knoxville and borders Douglas Lake.

Dandridge was founded around 1783 when settlers came across the Appalachian Mountains moving west. When TVA constructed Douglas Dam to generate electrical power and control flooding, much of the original fertile land was covered by the waters of Douglas Lake. The Town of Dandridge was also going to be inundated, but citizens of Dandridge went to Washington, DC and lobbied for a stone and earth dike to keep the waters of the reservoir from flooding the town. The town and the dike exist to this day.

Why Dandridge

Dandridge has a lot to offer both visitors and residents. Many of the homes have a great country, mountain, or lake view, and the area us surrounded by beautiful natural features. 

Dandridge is close Douglas Lake and just a short drive to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is also not far from the Seven Islands State Birding Park.

Residents of Dandridge have access to Douglas Lake though boat docks, and many of the residents have homes or vacation cottages on the lake.

Dandridge also has convenient shopping and restaurant venues.

Douglas Lake

Douglas Lake is located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, attracting more than 1.7 million visitors a year.

Douglas Lake has become the premier crappie lake in East Tennessee and is rated one of the top five crappie fishing lakes in the nation.  It is also in the top 10 in the nation for largemouth bass and hosts many professional tournaments in the spring and fall.  The lake is fed by 3 rivers and two of those the French Broad River and Nolichucky River, which offer great fly fishing
